One of the many reasons that people may shy away from visiting their family dentist is that they feel like they don’t have the time to spend what seems like forever in the waiting room before their exam begins. And in one part of the world, it looks as though patients may have to way longer than they usually do to see their oral care expert. According to sources such as the British Broadcasting Network (BBC), the Isle of Man, which is located off the coast of Great Britain, is experiencing a shortage of dentists.
The British Department of Health revealed that as a result of the lack of dental professionals, men, women and children are facing increased waiting times for basic services like cleanings.
Although Health Minister David Anderson said that the department was “committed to resolving this problem,” there is no word on when the issue will be solved. He also stated that “These challenges are not simple to resolve but I would like to reassure patients that we are taking all possible measures to improve the situation.”
The BBC reported that the Department of Health is attempting to decrease waiting times by incorporating extended hours in certain offices and hiring backup dentist.
Although this is certainly not an optimal situation for residents of the Isle of Man, patients of Dr. Thomas Cooke can rest assured that they won’t have to spend their precious time waiting to their dentist. Dr. Cooke and his staff understands that your time is valuable and will do everything possible to make sure that you are in and out of your appointment in a reasonable amount of time without sacrificing quality of service.
